This unit will consider how screen texts, creators and cultures interface with histories and practices of social justice. It will explore the central function that screens play in enabling and shaping attitudes, processes and messaging that seeks to bring about social and political change. The unit will take a case study approach, with possible areas of focus including the environment, anti-racism, Indigenous rights, linguistic justice, gender equity and anti-capitalism.

- Apply relevant key concepts in the interpretation of screen and social justice issues;
- Analyse film and media as a global cultural form in relationship to social justice issues.
- Apply research skills to a case study in screen and social justice.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week.
