This unit focuses on the development of communication skills and understanding of conceptual, historical and ideological concerns which relate to 2 and 3 dimensional modes of representation. Examining the relationship between 2 dimensional modes of representation and 3 dimensional material and physical outcomes is a primary focus. Two related themes are explored: methods of digital image production, including visualisation and rendering; and processes of material production and fabrication.

Learning outcomes
- Recognise and understand expanded 2D and 3D architectural representation tools and methods to communicate projects to a wider audience;
- Apply current tools and expanded methods to represent architectural design ideas and projects, from conceptualisation to presentation;
- Select appropriate tools and methods that can be integrated to produce and communicate a variety of architectural design representations;
- Expand the capacity to engage in effective and respectful interactions and collaborations with peers, tutors, architects and a wider audience;
- Understand the ethics behind the practice of architectural design communication, including extending appropriate referencing methods for existing knowledge, intellectual property and cultural material;
- Develop individual and collaborative problem-solving skills as a means to address technical and conceptual architectural design communication challenges.
Workload
12 hours per week including 3 contact hours plus 9 hours of independent study, or equivalent.
