Overview

The unit examines reform in the public sector in Australia and internationally, and the impact of public sector reform as a global phenomenon. It considers theoretical explanations of reform and implementation in practice. The focus is on identifying and analysing practical issues facing public managers. Lessons are drawn from international practice.

  2. Evaluate the effectiveness of public sector reforms in practice;
  3. Identify practical issues confronting public managers and those responsible for the implementation of public sector reforms;
  4. Utilise critical thinking skills and develop evidence-based arguments.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study.
