Overview

This unit offers you the opportunity to design and produce a bespoke portfolio of work that crystallises and showcases skill sets acquired during your master’s-by-coursework degree. You will draw on your prior learning of cross-media communication skills, media research methods, critical analysis of the contemporary challenges and developments in media and communications industries, and evaluation of their impact on wider social and political contexts. During the unit, you are guided in undertaking the production of your portfolio in a medium and format that best demonstrates your interests and proficiencies, with a view specifically to your future employability.

Requisites

Learning outcomes

1. Conceptualise and develop a proposal for a portfolio of work, including research requirements, project design and production requirements;
2. Explain and rationalise your work and respond to critical feedback, through regular Work In Progress processes;
3. Produce a portfolio that demonstrates engagement with, understanding of, and interpretation of research, knowledge, issues and practices in your discipline;
4. Utilise effective time- and project-management skills in planning, producing and completing a portfolio of new work.
5. Communicate research findings in both written and other media formats.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
