ATS1075 · Introduction to comparative studies: Contemporary narratives of the global
2027 Handbook6 credit pointsLevel 1School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics
Overview
This unit invites you to reflect on our current global condition via the interaction and interrelationship between Asian and European cultural forms and practices. When and why did the idea of the ‘globe’ emerge and how is it connected to the idea of the ‘global’ as a condition of our times? What are the effects of such a conceptualisation for the planet called Earth? You will examine contemporary narratives of Asia and Europe that seek to explain global circuits and flows between them. In particular, you will investigate and interrogate your own place and positionality within such a global imaginary.
Areas of study: Comparative Asian and European studies
