ATS1192 develops language skills acquired in ATS1191 with particular emphasis on oral and written practices. In addition, you are introduced to key aspects of Hispanic cultures and societies.

Learning outcomes
- demonstrate speaking, listening, reading and writing skills (and the corresponding appropriate vocabulary) to communicate effectively in Spanish in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters;
- recognise and use frequently used Spanish structures;
- recognise and use when necessary a vocabulary of approximately 1000 Spanish words;
- engage successfully in conversations and discussions in Spanish, and handle short social exchanges;
- accurately locate information in basic texts in Spanish, including simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables, and understand short simple personal letters;
- identify and discuss key aspects of modern Spanish and Latin American culture and societies, using written and audiovisual sources in Spanish.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
