Last checked: 23 Aug 2026 UTCOverview
In this unit you will build on the work of level 1 Global Studies units by turning to the role of individual and collective agency in social change across a number of local and global issues. You will examine how the categories of gender, race and class structure the world and our lives, and ways different groups have resisted and reframed them. You will gain a deep understanding of collective action and approaches adopted by different social movements, particularly feminist, anti-racist and anti-capitalist movements, in a range of historical, linguistic, cultural, and geographical settings. You will develop the skills necessary to critically engage with and synthesise a range of interdisciplinary sources and practical approaches to social change through tutorial activities and individual and group assessments.
