Overview

The ability to develop innovative research projects, and to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams, are skills highly sought after by policy makers, public administration, and industry. The Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration program is a prestigious, invitation-only program aimed at students in their second or third year of study with a WAM of at least 70. It is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in research or working with data across a variety of fields and sectors, and those interested in developing high-level collaboration, team work, and project development skills. The unit brings undergraduates from disciplines and areas across Monash University to work together in interdisciplinary research teams to develop a research proposal for a unique project that will benefit individuals, communities, or broader society. The unit also allows students to experience first-hand the process of developing research ideas under the mentorship of academic staff across the university. Students in this unit develop research and project management skills, learn to communicate research and complex ideas to different audiences and through varied communication channels (including the International Conference for Undergraduate Research, ICUR), and develop the capability and agility to work in an interdisciplinary research environment.

3. apply teamwork skills to develop collaborative research projects;
4. design and develop a research project idea as a member of a team.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
