The unit provides you with deep engagement and insight into the creation of a new work of musical theatre, from exploratory workshops to public showing. You work with industry professionals and staff members to gain skills in writing, creation, dramaturgy and musical theatre performance. It will build on the theoretical and practical frameworks established in ATS2296/ATS3296 (Musical theatre 1: History and form) by applying those analytical and performance skills to the generation of new work in the genre.

Learning outcomes
- discuss the distinctive methodological issues involved in the study of the form;
- assess the implications of dramaturgical and structural choices in the evolution of a musical theatre text;
- apply skills in the performance and writing of the genre;
- collaborate in a creative process from inception to execution;
- communicate critical arguments and analyses orally and in writing, using discipline-specific language.
Workload
