Overview

This intensively delivered unit is part of our Criminology in Prato programme. In this unit, you will explore the study of comparative and international criminal justice and criminology. You will trace the impact of criminal justice across different jurisdictions. Focusing on case studies, you will contrast national and international examples of criminal justice and responses to crime: including policing, court processes, prosecution and punishment.

Learning outcomes

  1. identify and explain the benefits and challenges of comparative criminology across Europe; and between Europe and Australia;
  2. discuss and analyse practical and theoretical insights into the criminal justice system across Europe, including the impacts of the criminal justice system in multiple European jurisdictions;
  3. conduct and communicate independent research using a range of sources and applying theoretical concepts relevant to comparative criminal justice;
  4. collaborate in a group to deliver a presentation and design a piece of visual communication.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study.
