This unit aims to further develop your professional communication capabilities, to assist you to apply knowledge and skills from an academic context to workplaces. The primary focus of this unit is the development of an extended individual project focusing on analysis and development of writing and editing in a current organization. Further professional writing skills are developed through the documentation of the project (pitches and briefs, social media writing, bench-marking and final delivery reports, written and oral). As the expectations of communication in organisations and the modern world are rapidly evolving, the unit is also designed to further your conceptual understanding of key issues in professional communication such as multi-modal-literacy, inter-cultural communication, digital writing and text creation. This knowledge will complement your work in other media and professional communication studies insofar as it enables a consistent and thorough approach to media text construction.

Learning outcomes
- design and develop an individual professional writing project;
- analyse communication needs in an organisational context;
- show an understanding of the principles of project design and documentation;
- demonstrate a detailed understanding of professional communication issues in the contemporary global context;
- present the key message of a project in various forms and situations such as an oral presentation, video presentation, text summary or media release.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
