Overview

In this unit you will study music as artistic citizenship and public pedagogy. You will investigate place-based, embodied participatory approaches to music-making. We will take a reflective approach to the exploration of diverse co-creative music practices and research activity through workshops, critical thinking and collaborative practice.

Learning outcomes

1. recognise and analyse key elements of a specific cultural context by focusing on the eco-cultural perspective of musical engagement with communities;
2. reflect upon your own musical practices and develop insights into newly acquired cultural knowledge about music;
3. apply concepts you have learned to a specific stream of music study.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study.
