Overview
In this unit, you will learn what social justice issues are in contemporary social sciences, why social scientists study social justice issues, and how we study them. You will gain insights into a diversity of online and offline methods used to research social justice issues. You will undertake an extensive review of the relevant academic literature on a topic of your choice and design a research proposal to study this topic.

Learning outcomes
- Critically analyse social justice issues in contemporary social sciences with ethical and global awareness;
- engage collaboratively and communicate respectfully and effectively;
- apply critical thinking to justify and select appropriate methods for investigating social justice issues;
- apply major sociological perspectives to critically evaluate theoretical and methodological debates and to generate new knowledge and solutions to pressing real-world problems;
- critically evaluate and synthesise scholarly literature to generate new insights into social justice issues;
- design and communicate an independent and innovative research proposal that demonstrates methodological rigour, ethical awareness, and global responsibility.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
