BEX5312 · Sustainability and climate project
2027 Handbook12 credit pointsLevel 5Faculty of Business and Economics
Overview
What does it take to work on the frontlines of sustainability and climate change? How do changemakers navigate complex systems, keep building in the face of uncertainty, and create tangible solutions to the world's most pressing problems? In this industry consulting project unit, you will work directly with a sustainability or climate focused organisation on a live business challenge. There are no weekly classes. Instead, you will meet regularly with your industry-based academic supervisor and work hands-on with your client, taking ownership of your project from brief to final deliverable. You’ll also have access to several industry masterclasses to help you develop your project and consulting skills. The challenge will vary by organisation but all the clients within this stream have strong sustainability or climate change ambitions. Your brief could be to validate new initiatives or products, conduct customer research and develop outreach and engagement strategies, develop impact measurement models or evaluate financial viability of green solutions. You will not just advise, you will build. Your output will be something the organisation can use directly, whether that is a live website, a toolkit, a financial model, a prototype, or another tangible artefact. You’ll be immersed in the world of systems change, likely working with complexity and navigating ambiguity, making decisions with incomplete information, and using a wide range of contemporary digital tools to get things done. If you thrive in deeply impactful, evolving environments and are curious about sustainability or climate action as a career path, this is the project unit for you. By the end of this unit, you will have experienced first-hand what it means to innovate under real constraints, working alongside changemakers and practitioners to deliver meaningful societal impact.
