This unit is an elective unit for PhD students who are undertaking a research internship with an approved research end-user. An eligible research internship must be agreed in written form by the HEP, research doctorate student and the research end-user, within 18 months FTE of the PhD student’s course commencement.

Learning outcomes
- A research internship as part of the PhD program must be related to the student's area of research, making use of or contributing to research skills and experience that will be of benefit to their research area and/or their own development as researchers. In this internship, students will work with a research end-user external to academia, with objectives and terms of engagement agreed in advance.
- Develop a deeper understanding of the potential impacts of the research project for next users outside academia
- Apply research methodologies ethically in a workplace environment
- Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders in a complex organisational setting
- Reflect on the personal learning and research skills development during the internship and their implications for the research project
Workload
Eligible Research Internship: • Related to a research student’s area of research, and • At least three months in duration, and consists of 60 full-time equivalent days of engagement
