Overview
This unit provides you with advanced knowledge and practical skills in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate restructurings, with a strong focus on value creation. You will explore the takeover process, the role of investment banks, valuation methodologies, and alternative restructuring strategies, including private equity, leveraged buyouts (LBOs), and divestitures. The unit also highlights the role of corporate governance mechanisms and evidence-based analysis in shaping strategic financial decisions. - critically evaluate the takeover process and corporate restructurings, addressing commercial, legal, tax, financial, and governance issues in value creation
- apply and assess industry-standard valuation models, such as discounted cash flow (DCF) and comparable company analysis, supported by research and evidence-based analysis
- communicate analyses and key findings effectively through professional writing, presentations, and persuasive pitches, while collaborating in teams to evaluate M&A transactions and demonstrate creativity, innovation, and forward thinking in problem-solving.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
