Overview
Today’s business organisations experience financial and non-financial risks in a complex, fast-changing, integrated, and globalised business environment. This unit exposes you to the core concepts, processes, and identification of financial and non-financial risks. This is followed by strategies to assess, evaluate and mitigate these financial and non-financial risks within a business organisation. A risk management framework, governance structures, is expected to be constructed to assist business executives and managers in their daily decision-making and overall organisational strategies. This unit will provide you with the latest practical knowledge and exposure to current issues such as geopolitical risks, tariff multipolar world which affects financial and non-financial risks.

Learning outcomes
- evaluate the impact of geopolitical risks on the business strategies and country risk of the corporate firm
- assess a corporate firm’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) risk, and its risk-mitigation strategies
- analyse financial risks and conduct an assessment on the appropriate hedging, speculation and arbitrage strategies for the corporate firm.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
