Overview
This unit offers a rigorous and integrated treatment of asset pricing and corporate finance. You will examine foundational and modern theories of asset valuation, investor decision-making and preferences, and market frictions, and analyses how market prices and agency problems influence corporate decisions and real economic activity. Emphasis is placed on critical evaluation of theoretical models, their empirical validity, and their relevance for research and practice.

Learning outcomes
- develop fundamental knowledge on the theoretical foundations of asset pricing and corporate finance models;
- critically analyse research papers examining current issues in asset pricing and corporate finance theories;
- demonstrate an ability to analyse asset pricing and corporate finance theories;
- apply critical thinking, problem solving and presentation skills in individual and/or group activities dealing with issues in asset pricing and corporate finance theories, as evidenced in an individual summative assessment task that reflects a comprehensive understanding of the topics.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
