Overview

The Biomedical Science Education Research unit offers a focused exploration of the intersection between biomedical science and education, providing you with the opportunity to develop education research skills. You will delve into educational theories and research methodologies, honing your critical evaluation abilities and data analysis skills. Practical application is emphasised by designing and executing research proposals tailored for biomedical science education, including research question formulation, data collection methods selection, and ethical considerations. Projects will include a review of the current literature and a synthesis of the project vital findings. You will use quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques to interpret research results, with an eye to making evidence-based decisions. You will present your findings through a combination of oral and written reports, emphasised to showcase the significance and implications of you research findings, and preparing you to make a valuable contribution to the dynamic field of biomedical science education.

Learning outcomes

1. Present a review of education research literature relevant to the research project focus.
2. Co-design an education research project based on a biomedical science theme.
3. Demonstrate critical evaluation and comparison of educational theories and research methodologies relevant to education-research.
4. Apply quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis techniques, utilising statistical software and/or qualitative analysis tools.
5. Communicate research findings, both in written and oral formats, to diverse audiences, showcasing the significance, implications, and potential applications in the field of biomedical science education.

Workload

Approximately 2 hours of engagement with supervisors each week Average of 2 hours of interactive workshops per week 8 hours per week of self-directed research. Total per week = 12 hours
