Overview

This unit develops your understanding of a particular topic/area in the transport/traffic field through completion of a one semester-long project which will develop your ability to plan, undertake and report on an independent program of investigation/research. You propose your own topic reflecting your professional interests. On the basis of your selected topic, you will undertake a one semester-long program of independent investigation/research and document the findings in a professional report and video record an oral presentation on their project. You will provide peer feedback on the final reports and oral presentations of other students.

Learning outcomes

  1. Develop an understanding of the selected area/topic,
  2. Develop report writing and oral presentation skills ,
  3. Strengthen ability to communicate information about a topic to readers/listeners who may have a limited background in the area, and
  4. Become aware of the importance of critical analysis of published material
  5. Develop capacity to provide effective peer feedback.

Workload

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
