This unit introduces the web as an interactive publishing medium for online communication, business needs, and creative digital services. It builds on fundamentals of design in typography, colour and identity, and applies that knowledge in an accessible, interactive online medium. You will learn about user experience design on the web, responsive web design, and web accessibility through a series of hands-on studios building functional websites. You will gain the confidence, knowledge and skills to approach modern web design.

Learning outcomes
- Communicate the design considerations for the web as a living, device-agnostic medium;
- Identify the different technologies for web design, including mark-up languages, interactive multimedia formats, video/sound streaming, and content management systems;
- Create web-based experiences that are fit-for-purpose, or for a creative solution, and articulate your design rationale;
- Produce machine and human accessible text, images, as well as embedding typography, animation, sound and/or videos;
- Demonstrate familiarity with colour and contrast, and their interplay with web interactivity and accessibility guidelines;
- Edit and publish files in multiple formats with optimised media for users on varying bandwidth speeds;
- Publish websites on the Internet and integrate them with social media and search engine discovery mechanisms.
