Overview

You are encouraged to develop a greater understanding of furniture design and methods of production. Topics cover aspects of ergonomics, production processes in a variety of materials and the aesthetic aspects of furniture. Further sophistication in the demands of users. Furniture as components of exterior environments, and larger modules such as office spatial requirements. Studio project work is undertaken involving the development of furniture designs to meet particular technical and cultural requirements.

Learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate awareness of the wide diversity of furniture types;
2. Demonstrate knowledge of progressive ergonomic analysis;
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the variety of production methods;
4. Demonstrate knowledge of aspects of furniture in a wider external environmental context;
5. Demonstrate knowledge of the development of furniture design concepts and details to meet selected design requirements;
6. Demonstrate understanding of the holistic integration of technical, aesthetic, and symbolic factors in your designs.

Workload

12 hours per week including 3 contact hours plus 9 hours of independent study.
