Working in close supervision with an expert in the field, you will continue to refine your analytical and methodological skills by completing an advanced research project that started with EAE5010. Your original research results will be presented orally, in a seminar setting, and as a research thesis suitable for publication in a scientific journal.

Learning outcomes
- Analyse and explain key concepts and principles that underpin recent developments in the literature in the chosen area of research in Earth Science.
- Synthesise and interpret the knowledge gained in the study of the underpinning research literature. This leads to the ability to identify gaps in current knowledge within the existing body of literature. The problem identified in this way should be suitable for original research.
- Apply relevant methods to address complex research questions to advance our understanding of an existing problem or problems in Earth Science.
- Communicate the findings and implications of original research in a written thesis suitable for publication in a scientific journal, and orally in a seminar presented to peers and academic supervisors.
Workload
A total of 24 hours per week: • Attendance at weekly group meetings (half hour per week) • Attendance at seminars and colloquia (half hour per week) • At least half hour per week of consultation with the supervisor • Specialist training (approximately half hour per week) • Preparation for a seminar (approximately 1.5 hours per week averaged over the semester) • Preparation and writing of a thesis (approximately 2.5 hours per week averaged over the semester) • 18 hours of independent research per week
