This unit builds from the foundational units in the Masters of Economics degree and equips you with the skills required of a professional economist. You will work on several consulting topics using the skills acquired in the degree. This practice will help you build your writing, communication, presentation skills, and teamwork skills, ultimately supporting you in your future career activities. At the end of the unit, you will be required to submit an original research or consulting piece on a topic of your choice. The unit will be conducted in a workshop style, with topics chosen to support you in your written project and build the capability expected of a Masters graduate in economics.

Learning outcomes
- gain the necessary analytical, communication, creative, critical thinking and writing skills and apply these to asking and answering a research or consulting question that would be of interest to a practising economist
- demonstrate the ability to analyse, comment, evaluate, discuss and communicate economic concepts and research or consulting question outcomes in a professional manner
- demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills with high-level personal autonomy and accountability.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
