This unit prepares you to teach senior secondary physical education and builds upon 7-10 specific curriculum and discipline knowledge and skills. You will have the opportunity to critically engage with, reflect on and evaluate both contemporary challenges in the field of physical education as well as your teaching and learning experiences. You will also develop and apply pedagogical content knowledge and skills relevant to teaching senior secondary physical education in a variety of ways. With reference to national and international senior secondary curriculum documents and current issues, you will have the opportunity to devise and plan teaching and learning materials that demonstrate constructive alignment across curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment at VCE level. You will be provided with a variety of opportunities to explore and reflect upon content and movement concepts of relevance to senior secondary physical education with the aim of developing your skills to meet the diverse needs of senior secondary physical education students.

Learning outcomes
- demonstrate accurate knowledge of VCE physical education content and use curriculum documents and policies to plan aligned teaching and learning materials such as units of work, lesson plans and teaching resources
- critically examine contemporary policy, curriculum, pedagogical, and assessment knowledge and issues in physical education and apply insights to enhance VCE physical education teaching practices
- demonstrate knowledge of a range of assessment and reporting practices and integrate these into planning and teaching for VCE physical education
- critically reflect upon and evaluate teaching and learning practices in physical education to meet the diverse needs of senior secondary students.
Workload
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Usually, you can expect to engage with: • 24 hours* of scheduled learning delivered on campus via weekly/regular directed learning activities; and • the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study Scheduled learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement. *Subject to variation due to professional experience requirements.
