This practicum unit develops a range of professional skills and acquaints you with issues of professional ethics and practice in educational and developmental psychology. You will spend between two to three days per week on placement undertaking activities that will contribute to the total placement hours required for the course (minimum 750 hours). You will be supervised on site by your field supervisor and also have regular contact with your university supervisor. Attendance at monthly group supervision sessions are required for the duration of the placement.

Learning outcomes
- apply your advanced professional knowledge and skills for assessment, consultation, counselling and intervention to working with clients
- demonstrate advanced report-writing skills and apply these appropriately to practice
- use advanced knowledge of local human service systems and an applied understanding of legal and ethical issues relevant to the area of practice of educational and developmental psychology
- demonstrate Level 4 competencies in the area of practice of educational and developmental psychology (APAC, 2019) as assessed by the field and university supervisors.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload equals 165 hours per teaching period comprising: • a minimum of 165 hours/22 days of supervised professional experience inclusive of: • a minimum of 80 hours of direct client activity; and • remaining time allocated to other client related activities • monthly group supervision sessions on campus for the duration of the placement.
