Overview

This unit will introduce you to different approaches to research and program evaluation. You will learn about the research process, how to conduct qualitative and quantitative research and program evaluation, as well as how to critique research. The unit aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to both critically evaluate research in counselling, as well as how to conduct your own research or program evaluation in counselling.

Learning outcomes

1. critically evaluate research in professional counselling practice
2. understand the purpose of research and program evaluation in counselling practice
3. understand and apply ethical, legal and professional principles and practices in research and program evaluation in counselling
4. demonstrate knowledge and skills regarding how to approach research and program evaluation in a range of counselling settings.

Workload

You can expect to undertake a minimum total workload of 144 hours per teaching period which may include: • on average 36 contact hours of scheduled activities which may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement; and • self-directed/independent study to make up the minimum required hours For the unit teaching schedule, please visit the timetable.
