This unit provides you with an opportunity for counselling practice and to apply evidence-based practice, reflective practice, case conceptualisation, assessment and documentation skills. This unit will examine your applied knowledge and skills in relation to mental health and counselling, and will evaluate the quality of professional services you provide. Through reflective professional practice, you will build your professional identity as a beginning counsellor, consolidate your skills in case-formulation, evidence-based assessment and intervention.

Learning outcomes
- demonstrate foundational knowledge and skills of professional counselling practice
- demonstrate foundational intervention planning to address clients' needs
- apply a variety of assessment instruments and tools in the appropriate context
- demonstrate skills in case formulation and reporting, and maintaining professional record keeping
- demonstrate ethical reasoning in appropriate agency referrals and engagement with local community services
- reflect on the legal, ethical and professional principles and practices relevant to counselling.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload equals 144 hours per semester comprising: (a.) Contact hours for on-campus students: • equivalent to 36 hours of engagement in online, face-to-face or blended platforms (b.) Additional requirements (all students): • independent study to make up the required minimum hours during the semester.
