Overview

This practicum unit develops a range of professional skills and acquaints you with issues of professional ethics and practice in psychology. You will spend between three and four days per week on placement. The placement activities undertaken in this unit contribute to the total placement hours required for the course (minimum 1000 hours). You will be supervised on site by your field supervisors and also have regular contact with your university supervisors. Monthly group supervision sessions are offered from January to December for the duration of the placements.

Learning outcomes

  1. Apply advanced knowledge and skills for assessment, consultation, counselling and intervention to working with clients
  2. Apply advanced report-writing skills to practice
  3. Use advanced knowledge of local human service systems and an applied understanding of legal and ethical issues relevant to the area of practice of educational and developmental psychology.
  4. Have achieved Level 4 competencies in educational and developmental psychology (APAC, 2019) as assessed by the field and university supervisors.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload comprises: (a.) Contact hours for on-campus students: • 400 hours (54 days) per semester of clinical placement experience including a minimum of 175 direct client activity hours (Permission may be sought to transfer some days and hours between the three placements) • monthly group supervision sessions on campus from January to December for the duration of the placements See also Unit timetable information
