Overview
This unit provides you with a detailed knowledge of approaches to assessment within secondary schools to support effective learner centred teaching. The unit draws on research and theory to enhance your knowledge of how to undertake assessment cycles and develop a range of assessment tasks and rubrics. The unit examines various approaches to formal and informal assessment, how data is gathered, evaluated to examine student learning and modify teaching practice. You will examine ways to provide effective student feedback and report on student achievement. The unit will also provide you with the skills to interpret student data and undertake moderation processes to support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning. You will have opportunity to consider how to use assessment data in reflecting on, evaluating and improving your own teaching practice.
