This unit is designed to provide an introduction to Industry 4.0 by covering four of the nine pillars of the Industry 4.0 – IoT, cloud computing, big data analytics and augmented reality. Each pillar will be introduced and linked to demonstrate how a cyber-physical system can drive an Industry 4.0 system. You will work in a small team to design an IoT prototype, which integrates cloud computing and augmented reality technology that meets a contemporary need in engineering.

Workload
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
