Overview

This unit is catered for research postgraduates and will focus on three main aspects of communicating research in the fields of engineering: • writing a research paper • preparing a thesis and • oral and poster presentation. You will be able to master best practices of presenting their results in the written form, as well as defending your research orally.

Learning outcomes

  1. Articulate their research output in the form of a research paper in a concise and professional manner.
  2. Review and critique the work of others by conducting peer review on research papers.
  3. Present their research clearly and effectively to the general audience.
  4. Defend their research orally and in the written form.

Workload

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
