Overview

This unit introduces you to applying AI techniques to real‑world problems through guided, structured, and case‑based learning. You will explore how AI systems are shaped by requirements, design choices, deployment contexts, and their ethical, environmental, and social impacts. You will work with AI‑enabled tools to analyse problems, design and implement solutions, and communicate with diverse stakeholders. This unit builds on your prior experience with AI concepts, programming, and understanding of technology impacts to help you make responsible, technically informed decisions in authentic domains.

Learning outcomes

1. Analyse real‑world problem contexts to identify goals, risks, and potential ethical, environmental, and social impacts of AI‑enabled solutions;
2. Communicate project requirements, design intentions, and evaluation findings clearly and appropriately to stakeholders across the AI solution lifecycle;
3. Investigate structured case studies to generate effective solution pathways and justify decisions when addressing multi‑faceted technical and contextual challenges;
4. Produce design artefacts that capture requirements, solution structure, and evaluation considerations across the AI problem‑solving process;
5. Use appropriate methods and AI‑assisted tools to prototype, test and assess solution components while documenting assumptions, risks and limitations;
6. Employ AI‑assisted workflows to support analysis, design and implementation in a responsible, well‑documented and transparent manner.
