Overview

This capstone project unit offers hands-on experience in researching, designing, developing, and evaluating a substantial Artificial Intelligence (AI) project. Projects may encompass various aspects of the AI process, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, generative AI, computer vision, and more. You will also consider ethical implications and societal impact of AI. The scope of the project covers both software-based and theoretical investigation. In the context of software-based, projects should cover the entire lifecycle from analysis and design to implementation and testing. Comprehensive written documentation of the project is required. You will work in groups under the guidance of a project supervisor. The capstone project consist of two parts, with each part worth 6 credit points.

Learning outcomes

  1. Recognise and execute the factors essential for successful management of systems development projects, including teamwork and interpersonal communication;
  2. Evaluate and select research methods and techniques of data preparation and analysis appropriate to a particular project, and practice these ethically and professionally;
  3. Search, access and analyse research literature as part of the process of developing solutions to problems;
  4. Operate effectively as a member of a development team;
  5. Communicate in written and oral form the proposed deliverables of a project and reflect upon their value and the likelihood of success;
  6. Develop, demonstrate and explain results of analysis, a software prototype or model.
