This unit aims to introduce you to human-centred information systems design, design thinking process and a way of making sense of the interrelated parts of a system and how the system works over time. You will practice designing an information system by applying the design concepts introduced in this unit.

Learning outcomes
- Explain the foundational principles of design and systems thinking and their application to information systems development and security;
- Appraise and demonstrate skills in ethically employing key design and systems thinking methods, tools and techniques;
- Undertake a critical and empathetic analysis of a problem setting using appropriate design and systems thinking tools and techniques;
- Discuss the impact of design practice on individuals, communities, organisations and society;
- Reflect the importance of human centred design and evaluation in dealing with uncertain, messy and complex information ecosystems.
