Overview

This unit has been designed to stimulate your thinking about leadership within the pharmaceutical sciences and to foster a sense of responsibility for your personal and professional development. The unit will expose you to various constructs of thinking surrounding leadership, including principles and practices of leaders. It will also explore ethics as it pertains to leadership and business principles within the pharmaceutical industry and discuss different methods to handle employees within the workplace. The unit is intended to challenge you to reflect on the complexities surrounding leadership and leading others, as well as what is motivating you to lead in the pharmaceutical science and global medicines development context. Each class session, the assigned activities, and the assessments require your preparation and thoughtful engagement.

Learning outcomes

  5. Demonstrate communication skills to ensure the best outcomes from a variety of challenging encounters
  6. Modify your leadership style based on reflections of your personal identities, values, and strengths.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of in-person and online learning activities as well as independent study. The unit requires on average 10-12 hours of learning activities per week, including teacher directed learning, independent study and reading time, participation in online discussions, research and preparation for assignments.
