This unit introduces you to the many concepts, tools and techniques for managing information technology projects. Exploring traditional and agile approaches for managing projects, topics include project lifecycles, project planning, project scheduling, team building, risk management, time and quality management. A case study approach will be used to provide learning opportunities, with an emphasis on the unique aspects of information technology projects.

Learning outcomes
- Apply the principles of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) to modern IT projects;
- Create IT project governance & compliance frameworks needed to manage modern IT projects;
- Recommend project management and critical thinking strategies and techniques for modern IT projects;
- Create a collaborative IT project plan using the PMBOK guidelines for a given case-study;
- Apply collaborative strategies to support effective teamwork in modern IT projects.
Workload
This unit has a requirement of 1-2 hours per week of asynchronous learning. Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled online and face to face learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated reading and preparation for scheduled teaching activities.
