Overview

Effective executives have strong self-awareness, high levels of emotional intelligence, a commitment to service and a learning orientation. Leadership in Organisations examines the critical and strategic role of leadership in organisations and develops the knowledge and capabilities for effective, responsible and inclusive leadership practice. In this unit, you will develop, evaluate and apply different frameworks and approaches to leadership, with due regard to issues of organisational diversity, communication and change.

Learning outcomes

  1. define and analyse the purposes and scope of traditional and contemporary approaches to leadership, and assess their application to real-life situations
  2. identify and evaluate the leadership and strategic HR implications of gender, diversity & inclusion, and ethics in contemporary organisations, and critically apply frameworks, concepts and tools for addressing them
  3. critically analyse strategy and leadership as interconnected and dynamic processes, and implications for the responsible leadership and management of organisational change
  4. assess and articulate the development of your self-reflective and communicative competencies for organisational leadership

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 153 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
