Overview

This unit is an integrated medicine/surgery curriculum which integrates learning across MED3100 and MED3200. Learning activities specific to each specialty area will be linked to the specific clinical placement and may include lectures, tutorials, case-based learning, bed- side tutorials, and practical skills sessions. Previous learning will be extended. By the end of the year you must be capable of undertaking history and clinical examinations of patients with straightforward conditions.

Learning outcomes

  1. Comply with the requirements for the ethical, professional and personal responsibilities and behaviours consistent with good clinical practice and professional codes of practice
  2. Identify the fundamental knowledge, skills and conduct necessary for safe, compassionate, and patient-centred health care
  3. Reflect upon own perspectives and values and identify strategies for incorporating anti-racist and affirmative action approaches in health care practice
  4. Source and interpret medical and scientific literature pertinent to health care.
  5. Explain key concepts in population health, epidemiology and measurement of health and disease in populations including social, ethical, economic and environmental factors
  6. Describe the differing roles of health care professionals and identify health care resources available to provide patient care.
  7. Elicit accurate histories and perform relevant physical examinations, and interpret findings to propose differential diagnosis.
  8. Suggest investigations relevant to clinical findings and pathology of the disease, interpret the results and suggest management options.
