Overview

This unit explores strategy and its related concepts. The focus is on strategic management – the process of defining purposes and objectives, analysing external and internal environments, formulating and implementing a viable and sustainable strategy, and evaluating firm performance. In this unit, you will develop the ability to see the enterprise as a whole, and to understand how and why the general manager can make a difference to the long-term performance of the entire firm. Through readings, cases, and lectures, you will be exposed to a wide-ranging, up-to-date synthesis of the growing body of literature on strategic management, and are placed in simulated managerial roles where you can apply strategy concepts and theories in contemporary management situations.
