Overview

This unit is designed for entrepreneurial aspirants. Through the use of workshops, case discussions, and simulations, you will gain familiarity with the design thinking, business modelling, and strategic frameworks necessary to develop an innovative start-up. The unit will specifically focus on the entrepreneurial innovation process, from idea generation up to pitching to investors, and will provide you with the opportunity to develop the foundations of their own start-up.

Learning outcomes

  1. generate novel ideas and recognise innovation opportunities using different ideation frameworks
  2. create desirable, viable and feasible business models
  3. explain how internal and external factors provide risks and opportunities for growth and pivoting
  4. understand the roles and dynamic of the start up environment (founders, investors and C-level employees) and create and deliver a compelling pitch.

Workload

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. You are expected to complete all pre-class activities prior to your scheduled class, and post-class activities should be completed after your scheduled class. Learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed, peer directed and online engagement activities.
