MTH5805 · Minor mathematics master project
2027 Handbook12 credit pointsLevel 5School of Mathematics
Overview
The minor master’s project, which can be academic or industry-based, is a unit of the degree designed to provide research experience and project-based learning in a mathematical context. It involves individual work, under the guidance of a supervisor, on a focused topic. Through the project, you will apply mathematical, statistical, and computational techniques developed throughout the Master’s program to investigate and analyse structured problems, with an emphasis on rigorous mathematical reasoning and modelling to gain insight into real-world or theoretically motivated questions in mathematics and related areas. In completing the project, you will draw on knowledge gained in other units and may develop additional skills in relevant areas as needed, while gaining experience working independently on an applied or research-focused mathematical project. Compared to the full 24-credit-point project, this unit has a reduced scope and workload. A written report is required, and the main outcomes are presented in a final presentation.
