Overview

The aim of this unit is to further develop your knowledge of the physiological and psychosocial factors influencing wounds and pain in the individual. You will gain a critical and comprehensive knowledge of wound and pain assessment strategies, with an ability to apply this knowledge in the healthcare setting. You will begin to develop evidence-based knowledge that will support your professional clinical practice in caring for individuals who are experiencing wounds and/or pain.

Learning outcomes

1. Describe the physiological and psychosocial aspects that impact wounds, wound healing, persistent and acute pain in individuals
2. Demonstrate the ability to undertake a comprehensive wound and pain assessment of the individual incorporating various aspects within the health care setting
3. Discuss the therapeutic and complementary measures in the management of wounds and pain for the individual
4. Demonstrate how evidence-based practice may impact the educational needs of the individual requiring wound and pain management
