Overview

This unit builds on the concepts covered in the core units in years one (1), two (2) and three (3). You will explore education, quality improvement and leadership, which are critical in addressing complex healthcare issues. To strengthen lifelong learning, you will explore and apply teaching and learning theories to provide education to your patients and your peers. You will build knowledge and skills about your role in quality improvement in healthcare. You will demonstrate effective leadership skills to role model the delivery of evidence-based practice in complex health care systems.

  1. Examine teaching and learning theories for patient and professional education.
  2. Plan, design and deliver tailored and evidence-based educational experiences.
  3. Explore quality improvement for innovation in healthcare.
  4. Discuss the nursing role in leading quality improvement.
  5. Analyse evidence-based policies, guidelines and standards to support safe nursing practice.
  6. Appraise leadership theories that enable person-centred care.
  7. Discuss the impact of leadership on improving healthcare delivery.

Workload

24 hours per week of teacher facilitated and self-directed learning including tutorials, teaching session and online activities. Please refer to Moodle for tutorial types and requirements.
