The unit provides you with the opportunity to develop an appropriate hypothesis or research question and derive an appropriate research design showing regard to the practical problems of conducting research in nursing or midwifery settings. Ethical issues in research are also considered. You will develop your own research proposal and seek ethical approval to conduct your study under the supervision of an academic staff member.

Learning outcomes
- Identify a research topic that addresses a significant nursing or midwifery issue;
- Develop a research problem, question or hypothesis;
- Formulate and present a research plan;
- Describe the theoretical basis behind the topic and research design;
- Develop and present a research proposal, including a literature review;
- Identify issues related to the conduct of the proposed research;
- Participate in research seminars and workshops;
- Apply to ethics committees for research approval as necessary; and
- Demonstrate a collaborative and critical approach to research.
Workload
