Overview

Health professions’ educators need to acquire knowledge and skills to assess, design and develop contemporary, learner-centred education programs. This unit introduces learners to health education research and scholarship that supports evidence-based teaching and learning practices. This flexible unit will offer you the opportunity to work through the process of education program development and apply evidence-based teaching and learning strategies relevant to an education context. It will also prepare you with the knowledge and skills to comprehensively assess and evaluate the outcomes of the education program..

Learning outcomes

  1. Examine and apply contemporary factors that influence education program development in healthcare practice/education.
  2. Examine models of curriculum designs relevant to education and healthcare practice.
  3. Conduct an education needs assessment (ENA) in your workplace, and analyse the results to identify goals and objectives related to learning needs of healthcare learners.
  4. Apply evidence-based educational practices to plan, design and develop an education program.
  5. Analyse contemporary literature related to assessment and evaluation principles and apply these to the development of an education program in healthcare practice/education.
  6. Appraise education research and its application in healthcare environments.
  7. Analyse how innovative teaching methods can impact healthcare educational program development.

Workload

24 hours per week of teacher facilitated and self-directed learning including tutorials and online activities. Please refer to Moodle for tutorial types and requirements.
