Overview

In this unit you will be introduced to the highly specialised area of interventional cardiology nursing, in order to care for a diverse cohort of patients, who range from low acuity to critically ill, and requiring life-saving interventions. As a nurse who may work in this area, you require specific cardiac knowledge to provide safe and holistic care to patients undergoing interventional cardiology procedures. In this unit, as part of the multidisciplinary team, you will also develop the knowledge that will enable you to provide support and education for patients in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory and their significant others. You will also develop the skills required to manage the patient at all stages of their catheterisation laboratory journey; understanding and managing interventional equipment, and provide advanced nursing practice in this unique nursing setting.
