Overview

The aim of this unit is to research and apply modern leadership theories to healthcare practice. The content is delivered in three modules. The first module examines concepts of the development of clinical leadership performance and skills. The second explores contemporary leadership theories and considers their relevance to healthcare leadership in a range of clinical contexts. The third examines developmental strategies in healthcare that require operationalisation of clinical leadership.

Learning outcomes

  1. Identify contemporary clinical leadership attributes and their application in healthcare settings.
  2. Demonstrate ability to apply leadership strategies in healthcare settings.
  3. Critically analyse leadership theories relevant to professional nursing or midwifery practice and their application in healthcare settings.
  4. Analyse leadership strategies that enable the individual to determine their own individual style in healthcare settings.
  5. Evaluate interventions in healthcare settings that contribute to the development of leadership capabilities.
  6. Evaluate clinical development outcomes produced through leadership intervention.

Workload
