Overview

In this unit, which explores trauma care through the lens of contemporary systems and evidence-based triage, you will develop advanced knowledge and skills in the management of patients requiring critical care. You will examine how structured trauma triage processes and assessment tools support clinical decision-making under pressure and guide the delivery of care to the right patient, at the right time, in the right place. Emphasis is placed on integrating system-level understanding with high-level clinical reasoning. This enables you to make rapid, informed decisions in complex and dynamic environments, particularly when managing critically injured patients in prehospital, retrieval, or emergency settings. You will analyse specific injury patterns in depth and develop advanced clinical skills to manage them effectively. To achieve the outcomes of this unit, active engagement in relevant clinical practice, placements, or high-fidelity simulation is essential.
