This unit will enable you to develop your skills in performing practice based research. Content will cover topics such as: performing practice based research, writing project/grant proposals and ethics submissions, qualitative versus quantitative research, managing and analysing data. Students enrolled in the Master of Clinical Pharmacy or Master of Wound Care (who are completing this unit as a prerequisite for PGC5108 and PGC5109) will receive detailed information regarding the allocation and roles of supervisors at the University and workplace, as well as the expectations for this series of units.

This unit contains one or more competency hurdle assessment tasks that you must successfully complete to be able to pass the unit. You have one attempt, plus an additional assessment capped at 50% of the available marks for the task, to demonstrate your competency in the competency hurdle assessment task. If you fail to meet the hurdle requirement, you will receive a fail grade for the unit regardless of the total marks you achieve.

Learning outcomes
- Develop a research proposal and timeline for a practice based research project, using appropriate data collection and analysis methods.
- Create a research team; including identifying and negotiating with collaborators and preparing ethics applications.
- Effectively integrate knowledge, experience, and research skills to develop and refine a research proposal.
- Use peer, collaborator and supervisor feedback and critical reflection to refine a research proposal.
- Prepare and deliver oral and written presentations about research objectives and methodologies to a diverse audience of healthcare personnel and academics.
Workload
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled online learning activities and independent study. The unit requires on average 10-12 hours of learning activities per week, including teacher directed learning, independent study and reading time, participation in online discussions, research and preparation for assignments.
